Viagra Appears To Not Be A Clause On The Roman Catholic Heresy List
For several years there has been a running altercation between The Catholic Church and various organisations about personal rights to do with contraception and other sexual wellbeing medications and procedures.

Most of the world knows about the Catholic religions guidance with regards to non-procreation. That contraception whether for women in the form of ‘The Pill’, barrier devices, abortion or sterilisation or in the same vein for men it includes vasectomies and other sperm inhibitors.

It is not allowed in the eyes of the Church’s teachings and many would say that when the Christian religion was established many centuries ago, it was probably a good idea in order to keep the population going. But as we can see in Christ’s time the world population was about 15 million, our population at present is over seven billion. The number of practicing Catholics at this time is in the region of 1.1 billion of the populace.

The world as a whole is beginning to get overcrowded, our natural resources are rapidly depleting and diseases are becoming less treatable, as drug resistance is rife.

The rights of the individual, especially women within Catholic guidelines when it comes to contraception,is not being allowed in any form and natural contraception is frowned upon.

The contraceptive pill is given to women for other reasons apart from preventing unwanted children. Many take it for relief from PMS, endometriosis and acne, yet this is still not allowed even though these are debilitating illnesses.

The allowance of Viagra for erectile dysfunction issues is allowed, as it is a help in procreation. The general Church ruling says it should be dispensed if there is a medical reason such as diabetes or a heart condition. (as an aside there are other impotence drugs available such as Levitra and Cialis)

Then why if it is approved as a medical reason for men, why can’t women take the pill for medical purposes?

In America there is a general battle going on about the Catholic Church not allowing contraception of any kind through its employee’s medical insurance. This also includes hospitals and clinics that they run, which are generally for those on low incomes and they also add to the high birth rate. Yet they are prescribing Viagra when it is required for ED caused by medical complaints. Certain areas of the world with a poorer economies and a religious ban on birth control are continuing to spread the sexually transmitted diseases. It is true that as fast as we find and produce drugs to suppress them, as there are not cures for some of them as yet, namely HIV, the medication is becoming resistant.

The rising costs of research into lifelong medication and sadly the painful deaths thousands of children in these areas, despite education programmes and the money to help them. If the Catholic Church was to revoke its advice on contraception, by say allowing the use of prophylactics, they would be going back on thousnads of years of teachings, which would lose them many followers and a massive loss to their overall wealth.
