Viagra: Does it work for everyone

Viagra – Does It Work For Everyone?

Viagra (Sildenafil) is an oral medication that was developed primarily to aid men suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED). It is also sometimes used for treating pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It was approved by the FDA nine years ago for use in treating erectile dysfunction. Viagra has proven highly effective and is widely prescribed by doctors and distributed by pharmacies world wide.

Viagra was developed at Pfizer’s Kent research facility in the UK and was patented in 1996. It has been widely accepted as a very-significant solution to male impotence with annual sales that exceeded US $1 billion in the period between 1999 and 2001 alone. While the effectiveness varies somewhat with the user, it has been shown to be useful in 90-95% of all cases and has been prescribed for more than 22,000,000 men to date.

While Viagra has slightly different results in terms of things like ‘lasting power’, it appears to be a real solution to ED for virtually every man that uses it. On the average, it continues to function for 3-4 hours when taken between half an hour and four hours prior to intercourse. Dosage ranges from 25 mg to 100 mg with 50 mg the average starting dosage prescribed by doctors.

As with most medications, there are some contraindications for Viagra. These include people who are taking nitroglycerine, organic nitrates and nitrites or amyl nitrate; men whose heart conditions preclude sexual relations; those with decreased liver or kidney function; men who have suffered a recent stroke or heart attack; men with chronic low blood pressure and those with retinal eye disorders.

Side effects with Viagra are rare but have been known to include long-term erection (priapism); myocardial infarction; irregular heartbeat and increased inner eye pressure. More common side effects are mostly annoying and include headaches, flushing, palpitations, and blurred vision. Doctors also consider the other medications a patient may be taking in order to avoid undesired interactions.

Many men use Viagra as an aphrodisiac even though there is no clinical evidence that it is effective for this purpose. It seems logical that the belief in the drug’s power as an aphrodisiac psychologically produces the intended result. It is also used recreationally by young people who mix it with other substances such as ecstasy in the belief that it will spur sexual performance and improve the quality of intercourse. There is no scientific evidence to substantiate this belief.

Viagra is nominally priced at separately at a per pill price and is available via prescription from pharmacies. It is also available online via the Internet from various online clinics which also include a doctor’s evaluation to ensure that the candidate is suitable to take Viagra, Cialis or levitra. You can also obtain Viagra from a number of online stores and in some cases, a simple questionnaire is completed by the customer in lieu of a doctor’s prescription and the pills are received in the post. Buyers of Viagra from online stores should be extremely cautious as there is no way of knowing the actual source of the medication. It is far safer to secure a doctor’s prescription and deal with a recognised pharmacy or online medical clinic when you are looking to buy Viagra.
